Simple tips for getting your house ready for sale:

Outside curb appeal

Keep lawn mowed

Trim or prune bushes, trees

Add mulch

Plant flowers

Get rid of clutter put away toys, bikes, junk on porch

Paint or touch up house shutters, trim, front door

Stain deck

Powerwash siding, sidewalks, driveways, deck

Inside

Get rid of clutter and organize put away toys, pack up collectibles, clean out closets and drawers

Get rid of odors

Get rid of unnecessary items and furniture — put it in storage

Get rid of wallpaper it is too personalized

Add a fresh coat of paint to walls and/or trim in neutral or soft colors

Buff or refinish hardwood floors

Steam clean dirty carpets or replace worn carpets

Thorough cleaning wash windows, light fixtures, replace burned-out bulbs, dust ceiling fans

Make minor repairs fix leaky faucets, running toilets, loose doorknobs, fix or replace any missing hardware on cabinets

Update:

original lighting fixtures, window treatments (get rid of the vertical blinds)

Kitchen

Thoroughly clean every area and surface in the kitchen

Get rid of clutter clear countertops, hide the small appliances, remove all magnets and artwork from the refrigerator

Update original appliances if they were there when the house was built it's time to replace them

Stain or paint outdated cabinets

Bathrooms

Make sure the bathroom is spotless and odorless clean any mold or mildew

Recaulk tub/shower area

Give each room a purpose

Let plenty of light in
